Welcome to B Movies

Welcome to my first B Movies blog post. What I hope to achieve with this blog is a place for my friends and family to go for a couple of good movie suggestions. For those of you that know me, you know I am a huge movie geek and always have something to say about movies. I have wanted to start a blog for reviewing movies as well as a place to develop my writing skills for a long time now. Well, today is that day. So if you are looking for a poorly written movie review this is your one stop blog.

Well, I guess it is best to go ahead and jump right into my first movie review. I am going start off with a double feature suggestion, "Sin Nombre" and "Which Way Home". Both these movies complement each other very well like a sip of Tempranillo followed by a bite of dark chocolate.

Once a year I try to watch a foreign film. I should try to do it more but I am usually apprehensive about reading during the movie, even though I know it is good for my development. I had wanted to see "Sin Nombre" for a while now. In fact, I remember seeing a preview for it about 6 months ago and thought at the time that it looked very interesting due to its MS 13 connection. Its tag line is "The greatest sin of all is risking nothing", which ironically is my personal tag line. This movie is about Central American immigrants that come to the US through Mexico and portrays the difficulties around this complicated journey. The cinematography in this movie is amazing, that alone makes this a great movie, but it also has so many other dimensions. For instance the story line is believable; it sucks you into the story like you are right there with Casper and his mara friends. The acting is amazing. In fact, until I watched it accompanied by the commentary, I thought all these actors were real people of the street and this was their daily life. I highly recommend this movie giving it 3 out 4 stars. This movie really opened my mind to the global immigration issue and the tribulation that real people endure for the possibility of a new life in America.

"Which Way Home" is a feature documentary film that follows unaccompanied child migrants, on their journey through Mexico, as they try to reach the United States. It answers the questions you will have after you see "Sin Nombre" making this the perfect complement to an already great movie. However, I can only give this documentary 2 out of 4 stars. At times the kids in the movie can be difficult to watch making me lose interest in the movie. I wish they would have followed other people than just kids. With that said, it is still a very informative movie that should be seen.

Well, this concludes my first movie review. In the future I hope to review some of my favorite movies growing up and how they molded me into the adult I am today. I am hoping to finish every blog with a quote from a movie.
